Bahart
Check out how we created the websites and online systems for Balatoni Hajózási Zrt. with a history of over 175 years.
Introduction
Balatoni Hajózási Zrt. - BAHART is a traditional company that has been transporting its passengers on Lake Balaton for over 175 years. It has been one of the most significant companies in the Balaton region for decades. Its activities are mainly focused on the tourism market and closely related to it. It operates in all three counties (Somogy, Veszprém, Zala) that are part of the Balaton region. Its owners are the Hungarian Tourism Agency on behalf of the Hungarian State, as well as the local governments of the Balaton region. Due to its activities, it maintains close relationships with all the municipalities of the resort area, other tourism organizations and civil organizations, economic companies, and companies engaged in tourism.
The goal
It was a truly exciting challenge for us to solve this task, as Bahart is a highly popular enterprise whose services are used by almost every age group visiting Lake Balaton. It had significant traffic data, so it was important to align with the content of the previous site. A separate challenge was that the system operated on Drupal foundations, and the company insisted on continuing to run on the same platform. The goal, therefore, was to create an easily manageable and transparent interactive website with current travel information for a wide audience.
Wireframe and UX development
Based on preliminary surveys and statistical data, we first designed the wireframe plans for the site. As several separate pages were planned, an overall wireframe design was created to establish the foundation for the subsequent subpages.
Design and UI development
The wireframe design was followed by the design phase, which we finalized in continuous consultation with the Bahart team. The basis of the design was determined by Bahart's newly created brand identity, but beyond the logo, base colors, and typography, we had creative freedom in further designs.
The development
We developed nearly 20 types of pages in the Drupal system, and the biggest challenge was integrating the data because we had to retrieve the route information from the Microsoft Navision system in real time. The shipping season changes three times a year, so it's important to keep the schedules up to date. The ferry schedule shows the departure time down to the minute and is supplemented with a webcam so that passengers can receive instant information about departures.
Career portal development
After completing the main website, the second step was to create a separate career portal for recruitment purposes. The main goal was to replace an existing system without losing any functionality, integrated into the Drupal system. The design was already in place, as UI elements designed in the first phase were applied here. Each department has separate access and a recruitment database, and job listings can be displayed timed to the application phase, creating a passive database. We developed a separate account for applicants, combined with a notification system.
Summary
The project has now gone through one boating season, working perfectly and serving the carefully planned tasks. Since then, we have been managing the websites under a support contract, developing further the continuously emerging ideas and needs.
